Overview

The Senior Financial Analyst plays a critical role in supporting senior management across brands and Head Office functions by providing accurate, timely, and insightful financial analysis. The role ensures leaders remain commercially focused and are equipped to make strategic and data-driven business decisions in a fast-paced retail environment.

This position is well-suited for professionally qualified accountants who are commercially minded, analytical, and thrive in dynamic, high-volume businesses.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and deliver regular management reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial performance packs.
  • Produce ad-hoc financial analyses and reports to support business reviews, investment decisions, and strategic initiatives.
  • Analyze financial performance against budget, forecast, and prior periods, clearly highlighting variances, risks, and opportunities.
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity of financial data used for senior management reporting.

Commercial & Strategic Support

  • Act as a commercial business partner to brand leadership and Head Office stakeholders.
  • Provide financial insight to support strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and long-range business plans.
  • Proactively identify trends, cost drivers, and performance issues, and recommend corrective actions or improvement opportunities.
  • Support business cases, feasibility studies, and ROI analysis for new initiatives, store openings, and capital investments.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning

  • Lead or support the preparation of annual budgets, reforecasts, and rolling forecasts.
  • Challenge assumptions and ensure financial projections are realistic and aligned with business strategy.
  • Monitor trading performance throughout the year and update forecasts based on changing market conditions.

Stakeholder Management & Collaboration

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams such as Operations, Merchandising, Supply Chain, HR, and IT to gather inputs and explain financial outcomes.
  • Present financial findings clearly and confidently to senior stakeholders, translating complex data into meaningful insights.
  • Support brand finance managers and junior analysts through guidance, review, and knowledge sharing.

Process Improvement & Controls

  • Continuously review and improve financial reporting processes, tools, and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and best practice adoption in financial analysis and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with group financial policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.

Retail & Fast-Paced Environment Focus

  • Respond quickly to shifting priorities in a fast-moving retail environment where performance can change rapidly.
  • Support weekly trading updates, margin analysis, sales performance reviews, and cost control initiatives.
  • Demonstrate agility, accuracy, and strong attention to detail under pressure.

Skills & Experience

Experience

  • Strong experience in financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting, preferably within retail, FMCG, or a fast-paced commercial environment.
  • Experience working in a multi-brand or large matrix organization is an advantage.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Highly analytical with strong financial modelling and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage large volumes of data accurately.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to think beyond the numbers.
  • Confident communicator, able to influence and partner with senior stakeholders.
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with BI/ERP systems (e.g., Power BI, SAP, Oracle) is an advantage.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver outputs within tight deadlines.
