Role: Merchandiser

Role Profile: As a Merchandiser at Primark, you play a critical role in the delivery of the product strategy in Primark. In partnership with the Buying teams, you will be responsible for building and delivering your section strategy through strong commercial, analytical and influencing skills. You will work in partnership with your Buying team and lead a team of Assistant and Trainee Merchandisers to manage the execution of this strategy through ensuring the right product is in the right place at the right time to maximise sales and profit performance.

You will be an effective communicator, and able influence key stakeholders. You will be responsible for developing and managing trend-led ranges that surprise and delight our customers, that are commercially competitive and that deliver on Primark’s value proposition. While supporting Primark as a global brand, you will also understand our regional customers and use data and analytics to tailor ranges which will deliver for the different customers in all our global markets. 

You will maintain a keen awareness and understanding of current and evolving social and economic landscapes, with a focus on sustainability under Primark Cares as a key strategic pillar for the business. 

As a Merchandiser, you will support the Head of Merchandising in continually seeking to identify new opportunities to enhance our value proposition, while supporting the departmental delivery of sales, markdown, stock turn and contribution budgets.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In Leadership: Demonstrate a passion for continuous development, by setting clear performance expectations. Share constructive feedback to motivate colleagues. Recognise and celebrate successes.
  • Develop the team’s capability by coaching and mentoring. Identify stretch areas and encourage the team to drive their own development.  
  • Drive engagement in the Make Your Primark mid-year and full-year process and support the team in setting goals which will challenge and motivate them.
  • Lead change within your team, such as driving the implementation of new systems and operating procedures in line with business change. Work with your Head of Merchandising to manage and embed change successfully.
  • Establish a strong, effective and highly trusting relationship with your Buying team. 
  • Establish strong working relationships with your peer leader group, maintaining regular communication to ensure a consistent leadership mindset and approach.
  • Take responsibility for your own development and seek out opportunities for growth, such as senior responsibilities or leading cross-functional initiatives.

Skills & Experience:

  • 5 years’ experience in a Merchandising role with at least 2 years in a people management/team lead position, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Relevant qualification in a fashion-, retail- or commerce-related subject, or equivalent experience
  • You will be a skilled influencer, effective at managing a large network of stakeholders to reach effective commercial decisions. Strong relationship builder with a proven record of managing stakeholders cross functionally.
  • Strategic thinker, with strong numerical and commercial acumen
  • Demonstrated experience in building and developing a high performing team
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, team based, deadline-oriented environment. The ability to effectively manage complex tasks and competing priorities.
  • Strong creative vision and ability to foster and encourage a culture of creativity within your team
  • Outstanding written and interpersonal communication skills
